Basketball Camp Snapshot: Scotch College

The Venue - Scotch College
Only 9 km from Melbourne CBD, Scotch College is a prestigious private school situated on an impressive 27-hectare campus on the banks of Melbourne’s Yarra River. Scotch College has extensive sporting facilities with 4 ovals, including two hard centre wickets, one turf centre wicket, cricket nets, 8 tennis courts and a full size indoor basketball court. We've chosen locations around Australia for all of our camps that are easy to get to for parents while still providing some of the best sport facilities for the kids to play. Scotch College is easily accessible when travelling on City Link by taking the exit to Toorak Road and then turning on to Glenferrie Road and making your way towards Hawthorn. While parents don't need to stay and watch, we always welcome you to do so as it can often be a relaxing day for parents as well. Scotch College is located at 1 Morrison St, Hawthorn VIC 3122. If you're coming from Essendon, Brunswick or Coburg in the North then you're best bet is to take Citylink through the tunnel to the South Eastern Suburbs exiting at Barkley Ave. - Turn right onto Madden Grove

Travelling from East

What To Bring
Generally, kids don't need much when it comes to basketball, we recommend wearing comfortable basketball attire, including rubber-soled running shoes. Things to bring: -
Comfortable Basketball wear - i.e. Shorts and t shirt or club basketball attire.

Your own basketball - Each child should bring their own basketball if they have one.

Drink bottle - Drinks are provided daily and water is available to all kids.

Lunch - Please bring a packed lunch but keeping in mind that ASC has a strict nut free policy.
In addition, ASC also provides fruit and drinks throughout each of the days. Incidentally, some things you might want to consider are making sure their lunch, clothes and all their belongings are clearly labelled with their name. We recommend to avoid bringing items that you wouldn’t want to get dirty, damaged or lost. These items include valuables, electronics and jewellery. Spending money is not required and lollies and chewing gum should be avoided. Camp Itinerary - How it Works
Over 3 days we provide your children with 18 hours of sports coaching between the hours of 9am to 3pm. Each day has it's own structure and it's been designed to cover all areas of Basketball including the important skills required for kids to start mastering and improving their game. More importantly, it's been designed to maximise enjoyment and ensure that kids are having fun for the entire 3 day camp. Listed below is a sample day structure. Sample day session: 9:00 — Structured Warm-up 9:10 — Defensive Skills Session 10:00 — Drinks Break 10:10 – Ball handling session 11:00 — Specialist Coaching Session 11:50 — Lunch- a short break to eat, followed by talks and activities, supervised by camp staff. 12:30 — Agility Session with Technology 1:10 — Attacking Skills Session 2:00 — Drinks Break 2:10 — Video Record and Analysis Session 2:55 — Structured Warm Down Training Drills
Our specialised skill development training give kids who are starting out or young players a taste of different positions and allows them to develop skills across all areas. Because they aren’t pigeon holed in one position, kids can strengthen their abilities in all areas. This means, they are less likely to get bored and frustrated, causing them to lose interest in the game. Also, it also allows the children to learn from each other. ASC allows kids to try different positions and learn skills without the pressure of a real competition. That way, if they choose to join a club in the future they have the experience behind them to know where they are best suited. We have a wide range of training drills and exercises spread out across three days. We also use state of the art digital video coaching software and provide you and your child with a unique written report from their coach at the end of the camp. This helps children work out where their strengths lie, and what areas need extra attention for fast improvement. Coaches
We employ coaches with a minimum Level 1 coaching qualification alongside senior coaching staff with years of experience. Our overall group coach to participant ratio is 1:10 to ensure your child receives the individual attention they require. Our camps also feature guest appearances from leading NBL and state players. Who deliver top level training for participants, and the chance for kids to meet their sporting idols. At our recent camp at Scotch College in Hawthorn we featured the following talent. Talent - Lauren Scherf
Lauren began her professional career in 2013, for the Dandenong Rangers, and went on to receive the WNBL Rookie of the Year Award. She has also been a strong member of the Opals Junior program at the World Championships, playing for the Sapphires in the Netherlands and in Lithuania and Russia for the Gems. Taking home the bronze on both occasions with the Gems. Lauren will head east for the 2017–18 season after signing a two year deal with the Canberra Capitals, playing alongside the likes of Rachel Jarry. Lauren is loved by the kids and her experience and passion for the game ensures the kids get world class training while they enjoy the opportunity to meet stars in the game.
Talent - Igor Hadziomerovic
Igor is a graduate from Boise State University (USA) and held a full Scholarship with the Boise State Basketball team. He represented Australia with the Emerging Boomers in 2013 in the Sino-Aus Series as well as the World University Games where we won a silver medal. He has helped win 4 National Championships with the Victorian State team in the U/16's. U/18's and U/20's category as an part of the NBL Minor Premiers in 2015/2016 and the NBL All-Rookie Team 2015/2016. Getting Involved
Basketball is the second highest team participation sport in Australia. Kids of all ages and genders can enjoy this fast paced, exciting sport.
