Roddy Vargas is a revered fan favourite, and former captain of A-League soccer heavyweight Melbourne Victory FC. He played 127 times for Melbourne Knights in the final years of the NSL before joining Melbourne Victory in 2006 for an era of great success where he appeared 154 times in the blue and white. At centre-back, he was a key element of the 2006/2007 and 2008/2009 A-League Premiership/Championship Double winning outfits. He was named best and fairest in 2007/2008 winning the Victory Medal. He represented the Green and Gold of the Socceroos in 2009, debuting in an Asian Cup qualifier v Indonesia. Vargas returned to the National Premier Leagues Victoria with former club Green Gully wining more silverware as a player and mentor for the club’s younger players. He has been a fantastic role model for junior players and ASC has enjoyed working with him at our camps over the past years.
