Are you excited about the upcoming ASC camps during the September/October school holidays? Well we are too! So, to add to the excitement, we thought we’d share the names of some of the ASC Heroes attending our camps around Australia…
We are pleased to welcome back many long-serving ASC coaches, as well as some fresh new faces. We look forward to having everyone on board, and thank the coaches for the time and effort they put in to provide great coaching at our camps.
VIC: If you hadn’t heard, we’re running basketball coaching camps in Victoria again for the first time in a long time! Yeah! And we can now confirm that former NBL champion, Stephen Hoare, will be on hand to run the program at the Canterbury Basketball Camp. Stephen is one of the most decorated players the NBL has seen, winning two NBL Championships as a starter with the Melbourne Tigers in 2006 and 2008, with two more grand final appearances in 2007 and 2009. Stephen is a two-time winner of the NBL Sixth Man of the Year award (for best player starting off the bench) and an NBL All-Star in 2004-2005. Great to have you on board, Stephen!
VIC: Current Adelaide Thunderbirds co-captain and Aussie Diamonds player, Sharni Layton returns to home state Victoria whilst she recovers from shoulder surgery to coach at the North Balwyn Netball Camp. Sharni has been a national player since 2010 and is renowned for her intensity as a defender and her team-oriented approach. Sharni is looking forward to attending the Boroondara camp and working with participants to improve their skills for the full three days of the camp! Joining Sharni at the North Balwyn camp, and also attending the Essendon Netball Camp, is ASC favourite and Australian netballing legend, Bianca Chatfield. If you haven’t heard of Bianca as a player, well… you’ve been living under a rock! But what you may not have heard is that, off the court, Bianca is also a really awesome coach! So make sure to get along to one of our Victorian netball camps to gain some professional coaching tips from Bianca.
SA: Joining us again to head the coaching program at the South Australian Netball Camp in Novar Gardens will be coach of state premier team Woods Panthers NC, Trudy Barker.
WA: At our Perth Netball Camp, we’re thrilled to be joined by ANZ Championship player for the West Coast Fever, Shae Bolton.
NSW: Mo’onia Gerrard, currently playing for the NSW Swifts in the ANZ Championship, will be in attendance at our Sydney Netball Camp.
QLD: Appearing at both the Sunshine Coast Netball Camp and Brisbane Netball Camp will be former Queensland Firebirds captain, Peta Stephens.
QLD: We are excited to have current Queensland Bulls keeper-batsman, Chris Hartley, join us at the Brisbane Cricket Camp. Last season, Chris won man-of-the-match award in the Sheffield Shield final, making a sensational 111 and 19 not out with the bat, to guide the Bulls to a three-wicket victory.
VIC: Joining us again at our cricket camps in Melbourne will be Victorian cricket legends Dean Jones and Brad Hodge. These school holidays in Victoria will see cricket camps held in Bulleen, Essendon and Keysborough.
SA: The ASC Adelaide Cricket Camp will again be headed by South Australian great, Greg Blewett.
WA: Former Australian captain, Kim Hughes, will be in attendance at the cricket camps in Claremont and South Perth.
NSW: Heading the coaching program for the three days at our cricket camps in East Sydney and West Sydney is former Australian legend, Doug Walters.
NSW: Current Kookaburras striker, Mark Paterson will be on hand at our Sydney Hockey Camp.
VIC: Heading our hockey programs at Bulleen and Wantirna South is former Spanish national player and coach of the Spanish Under-18 women’s team, Victor Romagosa.
VIC: We are pleased to have our Melbourne soccer camp in Bulleen overseen by John Kennedy. John is a former National Soccer League and Australian Cup winner, and brings to the program over 30 years of top-level youth and senior coaching experience after completing a decorated playing career.
WA: Head coach of the WA Soccer Camp in Claremont is Mark Lee. Mark is a former A-League player for the Perth Glory, was named WA State League player of the year, and as a junior was on the books with Middlesbrough in the English Premier League.
VIC: It’s certainly true that not everyone is a Collingwood supporter… But you don’t have to be one-eyed to recognise Tony Shaw as a great Australian footballer. Tony captained the Magpies to a premiership in 1990 with a Norm Smith-winning performance of 35 touches, and we are pleased to have him heading the program at our Brighton Football Camp.
Camps are starting in Victoria next week, so book online now to make sure you don’t miss out on all the great coaching, fun and excitement!
Hope to see you at one of our camps soon!
