Keeping the kids entertained over school holidays can be a full time job. So it’s important to plan ahead and have a list of activities that can keep them occupied. It’s important to have a good mix of kids activities to suit any situation, such as:
  • Indoor and outdoor activities to accommodate what the weather is doing.
  • Activities for the whole family and some supervised activities where you can leave them alone and have time get your jobs done.
  • Activities that go for a few hours and some that go for a few days depending on whether you just need a little bit of “me” time or have work commitments and need an option that will keep them safe and busy during the days you’re not at home.
The great things about living or holidaying in Sydney is the climate. We are blessed with nice sunny days and warm weather for most of the year meaning there are lots of great outdoor activities in that are also free or low-cost.

1. A Day At Bondi Beach

A trip to Bondi Beach is a great way to spend a day during the school holidays. The waves and water will keep the kids entertained for hours. Depending on what your kids swimming abilities are you can let them play in the waves or there is a little kiddies salt water pool at the northern end of the beach. Away from the water Bondi has everything you need in close walking distance including:
  • Picnic tables
  • Cafes
  • Toilets
  • Shaded areas
  • Kids Playground
Although as Australia’s most famous beach it can obviously get very crowded so if you want to find somewhere a little quieter head to Milk Beach. Milk Beach in Vaucluse is one of Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs best-kept secret beaches. There is lots of activities including great fishing and snorkelling, areas for family picnics and much more. Located only a few minutes from Bondi on the harbour side of the peninsula, Milky Beach has much calmer waters so it is a great swimming spot for learners and experienced swimmers alike. sydney-harbour-bridge-climb

2. Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb

For something a bit more adventurous and a day that your kids will never forget take them for the world's famous Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb. Not for the faint hearted the bridge climb allows kids over 8 years of age to take part, climb the bridge and enjoy one of the most spectacular views in the world. Climbs go at regular intervals all through the day and all equipment, guides and safety training is provided on the day. There are a number of different climbs with the express being the quickest and taking roughly 2 hours and 15 minutes. You still get to go to the top just with less stops so this may be a better option with small children. Prices are $288 for Adults and $188 for Children, which may seem a little expensive but it will truly be an experience that will last a lifetime. And so will the photos. http://www.bridgeclimb.com/ Blaxland-Riverside-Park

Enough to keep the kids entertained for hours For the parents there are beautiful grassy hills to roll out the picnic rug and relax while kids wear themselves out. A BBQ area with shade and picnic tables, and there is also a cafe close by. And best of all this is completely free, though it can get quite crowded. http://www.sydneyolympicpark.com.au/whats_on/parks/blaxland_riverside_park taronga-zoo

The Taronga Zoo is a great day out for the whole family. And if you live in Sydney and have never been your need to do it. The zoo now has a strong focus on conservation and recent upgrades have made viewing for the littles ones much easier so parents don’t need to constantly be carrying children on their shoulders. In terms of wildlife this zoo has everything you could ask for. The elephants, gorillas, chimpanzees, seals, reptiles, penguins, giraffes and koalas are big crowd pleasers, especially for small children and each of these exhibits has regular demonstrations and talks with experienced zoo keepers.
